Group Visits | PRC Policy

Patrons: The PIER Resource Center (PRC) supports The MacMillan Center ’s PIER/Outreach programs, and its materials are therefore chosen for their usefulness to K-12 and college faculty and students, but it is open to the general public. Anyone in the United States – in education, business, media, government, or any walk of life – may use the PRC. Our affiliate, the Center for the Teaching of French (CTF), is, however, limited to supporting educators in Connecticut.

Borrowing: Materials may be borrowed for 3 weeks. In certain cases, the PRC and the CTF have the right to recall materials after one week.

Number of items permitted: In any one visit, a patron may borrow up to:

6 books or magazines
4 videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, CDs, or slides collections
1 artifact kit, including games
4 maps

Reservations: Patrons can reserve materials for classroom or other use up to six months in advance by contacting the PRC or CTF by phone (203-432-6298), fax (203-432-6030), or e-mail lesley.kent@yale.edu.

Renewals: All renewals must be done on or before the due date by phone (203-432-6238), fax (203-432-6030), e-mail lesley.kent@yale.edu, or in person at 30 Rosenkranz Hall during opening hours.

Shipping: Patrons who visit the PRC and CTF may borrow materials at no cost. Out-of-town patrons may request that materials be shipped to them, and such outbound shipping is free. Borrowers must ship and pay for return postage or drop off materials at 30 Rosenkranz Hall (in the drop slot), from 9:00 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. Some oversized materials and all artifact kits cannot be shipped and must be borrowed and returned on location.

If you want materials shipped to you, please provide the following information:

* Full name (spelled carefully if on voice mail)
* Address
* Contact telephone number
* Title, type of item (video, slide set, etc.), call number for each item
* Date you will use materials

Fines: Patrons are solely responsible for the return of borrowed materials. All materials must be returned or postmarked by the due date. For all overdue materials (including recalled items), there will be a $1-a-day fine. Full replacement costs (and processing fee) will be charged for damaged and lost materials. Materials not returned 14 days after the due date will be considered lost.

Deposit: In almost all cases, no deposit is required. For certain items, however, the PRC or CTF may request a $20-$100 deposit, to be made by check only.

PRC Policy Acceptance: Any patron opting to use materials in the PIER Resource Center and the Resource Center for the Teaching of French, by visiting and/or borrowing online or on location, agrees to abide by the PIER Resource Center and the Center for the Teaching of French policies and is bound by them.
