Suggested Classroom Activities |
| Possible classroom activities are: 1. Making instant tofu - simply follow the directions on the package. Water and a refrigerator are needed in addition to the contents of the package. 2. Making "Moon Noodles" - recipe follows on the next page. A saucepan, a source of heat, and a colander are required in addition to the items contained in the Japanese Food Box and the Japanese Utensils Box. 3. Making pickles - recipe follows on the page after next. In addition to ingredients found in the Japanese Food Box, several small Italian/oriental eggplant, or one large Western one, a large bowl or crock, a colander, a small bowl, a sharp knife to prepare the eggplant, water, sugar, salt, and a refrigerator are necessary. 4. Making chirashizushi - recipe follows on the third page after this one. All the ingredients and utensils are required included in the Japanese Food Box and the Japanese Utensils Box, except an egg, a frying pan, carrots, and a shallow serving bowl. Chirashizushi is explained in the section on Food Items, under the general heading of sushi. 5. With the chopsticks provided in the Japanese Utensils Box, students should try eating ALL their food for one day with chopsticks. They should be able to understand immediately how the use of a knife and fork vs. chopsticks influences choices regarding the size and shape of food. |
