FIELD STUDY ABROAD

PIER understands the necessity for educators to have in-depth first-hand experience in the countries and world areas about which they teach and periodically offers field study opportunities that go well beyond a typical two- week tourist trip. The PIER directors use their extensive experience and connections in the countries and world regions of their expertise to design programs that include briefings with scholars, experts, and government officials, university and school visits, and visits to sites not usually open to tourists. In many cases, grants cover most of the expenses associated with some of these field study opportunities; in other cases, the costs, while reasonable, are covered by the participants.

In general, participation in the field studies is open to those who have participated in one or more of the PIER intensive summer institutes.

Check the PIER home page and PIER summer institutes pages for announcements on upcoming field study opportunities.
