For Immediate Release:
Farnam Neighborhood House Students to Learn Games from Around the World
NEW HAVEN -- Oh the games we play! Did you know that people play rock-paper-scissors in various forms around the world and there is a website dedicated to its strategy? Or that playing cards probably originated in China as early as the 9th century?
On Friday, March 4, 2005, students in the after school program at Farnam Neighborhood House in New Haven will have a chance to learn the games their counterparts play in Latin America, the Middle East and East Asia. The Programs in International Educational Resources (PIER) at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies will teach the students a Latin American card game, a Japanese version of rock-paper-scissors and a Middle Eastern sheep herding simulation game. The activities will begin at 3:30 pm at the Farnam Neighborhood House, 162 Fillmore Street, New Haven, CT 06513
The Farnam Neighborhood House focuses on nurturing young children, promoting positive youth development, strengthening families and community through involvement. They offer after school group work and recreation programs for youth and evening/weekend group work and recreation programs for adults.
