On October 20, the MacMillan Center hosted a reception in Henry R. Luce Hall to celebrate the $2.5 million gift from Stephen (’73) and Ruth Hendel to Yale in support of its efforts to understand and promote good governance and innovation in Africa.
Luce Foundation Awards Major Grant to Jackson Institute
The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at the MacMillan Center has received a commitment of $2.5 million from the Henry Luce Foundation, enabling the institute’s director, James Levinsohn, to augment resources for priorities of the institute.
Napolitano Speaks on Homeland Security
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano was the featured speaker in a Jackson Institute Town Hall Meeting on October 6.
Napolitano began by placing the responsibilities of her department within a broader framework, explaining that there are areas where defending the homeland intersects with concerns mostly in the purview of the State Department or Department of Defense, such as tracking suspicious individuals who want to enter the country, and in cyber-security.

As Yale’s hub for interdisciplinary teaching and research on political affairs, societies, and cultures worldwide, the MacMillan Center is the principal resource for students and faculty who engage in international research.
