Higher Education: Latin American Fellows Program
The Latin American Fellows Program seeks to support
the creation of joint courses and programming with area community
colleges and universities according to their faculty research and
teaching interests.
Non-resident fellowships are awarded to faculty teaching
at colleges and universities throughout the state of Connecticut.
Applications from faculty at institutions who are developing Latin
American Studies programs or who are encouraging the study of Latin
America on their campuses are particularly encouraged.
The fellowships will provide access to Yale University's
library system and an annual travel allowance. Scholars will be expected
to become active members of the local academic community. CLAIS expects
to offer fellowships in each of the following themes: Hemispheric
Security, Democracy and the Rule of Law; Latin American History; Sustainable
Development; Latin American Art, Literature, and Film.
(The application period is currently closed)
School Visit Program
K-12 In-school presentations:
"When I talk about culture I am not just
talking about something in the abstract that is imposed on man and
is separate from him, but about man himself, about you and me in
a highly personal way" (Edward Hall, 1983).
With the purpose of further enhancing knowledge about
Latin America in the region's schools, we will bring uniquely tailored
presentations about various Latin American countries to your K-12
classroom. Group member(s) of young volunteers, who through different
paths of life, share an avid interest in knowing about, visiting or
having lived in Latin America will bring their experiences to your
class through inter-disciplinary presentations created under the guidance
of the Outreach Director.
