Our Tutor/Mentor Program at Resurrection Lutheran Church Luther House Tutoring is a small group of Yale students who tutor elementary, middle school, and high-school-aged children in the Hill neighborhood around Resurrection Lutheran Church. While we are sponsored by Yale University Lutheran Ministries, our aim is not evangelical - many of our tutors are not Lutheran. Our program brings a small group of tutors together with the same number of children for one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. Each tutor is assigned to work with a child over the long term, but tutors work in a small group setting to network and offer support. We are continually impressed by each child´s enthusiastic desire for a tutor who will spend time devoted to him/her each week. Our small group format allows tutors who must take an occasional week off to be covered by their peers. The time commitment required is 1.5 hours/week. We meet on Tuesdays at 6:40 in front of the Sigma Phi Epsilon house at 31 High Street (right down the block from Luther House) to walk to Resurrection Lutheran together. (OK, we occasionally drive in winter.) We tutor from 7 until 8pm and return to campus by 8:20. See photos of our tutors in action!
