Transportation & travel
Travel to and from New Haven
Ground Transportation to/from Airports
It is not recommended that you take a taxi to New Haven from BDL, JFK, LGA or EWR airports as it would be very expensive. Taxi service from/to Tweed New Haven airport should be $10-15 from downtown New Haven.
Getting around New Haven
Faculty, staff & students may find a car useful, but having one in New Haven is not a necessity, especially if you plan to live downtown or in areas close to Yale and/or on the Yale shuttle route. If you choose to own and operate a car in New Haven you will be responsible for drivers licensing and CT motor vehicle registration, CT emissions inspection, insurance and possibly property tax.

Biking or blading are good ways to get to and from campus, and around the New Haven area. Bike racks or bike rooms are available at most classroom and office buildings, residential colleges, and graduate dorms or apartments. Note that rollerblades are prohibited inside most Yale buildings.
To protect yourself, wear your helmet and pads as necessary. Ride or blade with the flow of traffic and respect the rules of the road and all traffic signs and signals. If you must ride at night, be sure to use lights and reflectors.
For securing your bike, use a U-lock and lock both the wheels and the frame to a bike rack, pole or fence. Please do not lock your bike onto railings of a handicap access ramp, building entrances or stair rails, as it will be impounded by the Yale Police and you will be charged a fee to retrieve it.
