I agree completely with Don. Typing "./" is really NOT a huge pain.
And it's definitely useful for users of a UN*X system to know about the
relationships between executables and path, even if it means some
beginners will be initially confused. It'll be better for them to learn
the idea.
Personally, I store my own scripts and executables in ~/bin, read/writable
only to myself.
btw, is the shell variable for no history same for bash and csh?
