You're assigned a (new) permanent IP address every year.
To change the net... address to something cooler, you need to ask a CA to
apply for one for you. There are several on this mailing list, and I'm
sure they'd all be quite happy to help.
You can pick a computer name, and your address will be
comp_name.XX.yale.edu where XX is your residential college initials.
