Problems with symlinks (agghhhh...)

OK, so I decided to go with the symlink option. Partitioned and formatted
the new drive, copied the files in /usr /var and /home to /hdd/usr
/hdd/var and /hdd/home, and then created the symlinks.

Well, most things work fine, but xinit won't stop complaining that it
can't find a configuration file, and mentions where it looked, though
looking myself I found the configuration file. I don't know if this is
some bug in X that makes it screw up when it hits too many symlinks, or if
it screwed something up, or if there is something different I'm not
thinking about.

Everything else is working fine (once I remembered to put the partition in
fstab) It really should be working, it just isn't :-(

Thoughts?
