Here is what happened, I installed an rpm called setup, because rpmfind =
said I needed it to use the latest xforms libs. Little do I know that =
this package installs new /etc/passwd net /etc/services etc etc, =
basically hosing my system. I reinstalled my accounts all seemed well. =
Except now networking is completely fried. I even looked at what the new =
setup installed /etc/inetd.conf put in one from net-kit (I also removed =
the new setup and put in the redhat files) I go into linux conf and put =
in myself as so: dhcp and leave everything blank. Result dhcp fails =
after about 60 seconds. This happened before I fried my system when the =
dhcp server was down, but now its up and I get nothing.... 2) I tried to =
use bootp, bootp can't get a reply from bootp server and dies. 3) =
manual setup, the same thing that I had setup before it all went to =
hell. I have gateway 130.132.52.1 export default route yes, routed is =
silent, in host info I have my hostname I have 130.132.52.220 as my ip, =
net mask 255.255.255.0 and I put in nameservers. When it goes up I can =
only ping 130.132.52.220 (myself) and 130.132.52.255 (broadcast) this =
replies with lots of replies but they all say something like 65,536,000 =
ms or something whacky like that. I ping some of those ip's and =
sometimes they respond with the same huge laggy pings. I don't want to =
reinstall linux can someone please give me a hand here?
(I'm writing this from my win98 partition which uses dhcp seamlessly =
(arrg))
