firewall and forwarding

I got now my ADSL to work and share the connection with everyone on my
LAN, (I just needed an update of nearly every program on my server). The
firewall setup which came with the rp-pppoe seems to work BUT
- I can't figure out how to allow myself to log into the system from
outside via ssh
- Some ssh clients on a windows machine don't work through the firewall,
though it works from my linux box
- sometime i just cant connect via ssh to the outside world at all

Any ideas?
