Unfortunately there may be tons of reasons for your machine to have
bootup problems. You can spend days trying to figure it out, or you can
use an easy hack.

You can start you machine with DOS, and then have DOS load up your Linux
kernel. This will solve many problems. Especially on old computers
that you have built yourself using economic parts. It will also help
with hardware configuration. It is not as easy to use as lilo, but it
works. You can set it up, so it can give you a similar prompt as lilo.

It is easy to configure. It requires a program that comes free with
Linux, and editing your autoexec.bat or you config.sys (but not both).
I will send you an autoexec.bat file tonight if I still have it.

Until then use a start up disk to load your kernel. Since it is Redhat,
you can use the installation floppy disk or installation CD as your
start up disk.

A physicist, an engineer, and a computer
scientist were discussing the nature of
God. Surely a Physicist, said the physicist,
because early in the Creation, God made
Light; and you know, Maxwell's equations,
the dual nature of electro-magnetic waves,
the relativist consequences... An Engineer!,
said the engineer, because before making
Light, God split the Chaos into Land and
Water; it takes a hell of an engineer to
handle that big amount of mud, and orderly
separation of solids from liquids... The
computer scientist shouted: And the Chaos,
where do you think it was coming from, hmm?
