Which is why I (and Matt Hiller) prefer such UIs as WindowMaker, which
looks almost exactly like Nextstep in many ways. A very uncluttered
desktop, which is what I prefer. The default menus included in KDE/Gnome
never did fit the software I had installed (I was using LinuxPPC, so this
perhaps makes a difference) and didn't really tell me much about using
Linux, so I just ended doing nearly everything out of xterms anyway.
I dunno about constant interface improvements- Linux seemed terribly
difficult to use back when I didn't know what a pipe was. Now fancy
menus/taskbars/desktops seem to get in the way. I am very eager to see
what Mac OS X is like in final form, however. I hope a lot of NextStep
rubs off on that, though I'm not sure how well that'll integrate with the
traditional Mac UI.
