I solved a VERY trivial problem that's been bothering me for a long time, so
I thought I should share. I'm using KDE on an x86 Linux box. KDE has a
display option to apply KDE fonts and colors to non-KDE applications. I
like this option, because it lets me change desktop colors and have them
show up everywhere, instead of having to manually tweak my .Xdefaults ad
infinitum or having half my programs show up with all their widgets in that
Windows-style ugly pale grey which generally seems to be the default. The
problem was that applying KDE colors to Netscape always screwed up its
display: frequently, parts of the display, generally the images, would be
askew the first time they were displayed.
This can be fixed by editing
$KDEDIR/share/apps/kdisplay/app-defaults/Netscape.ad to comment out this
line:
Netscape*highlightThickness: 1
You can comment it out by putting an exclamation point "!" in front of it,
or just delete it. If you don't have write permissions on the file, you can
copy it to ~/.kde/share/apps/kdisplay/app-defaults/Netscape.ad and edit it
there.
ccg
(Now if only I could get KWM to stop letting Netscape put every new window
at +10+10, I'd be set.)
