I don't think it's a policy issue. Hubs that provide eavesdrop protection
are, however, actually installed at some sites already; if they're not
installed in your dorm, they might be soon. I don't know offhand what
DNO's plans are, though.
Hubs with eavesdrop protection are not necessarily relevant, however.
If you use a Linux box as your gateway with IP masquerading, then as
far as DNO can tell you only have one machine. You are only using one
ethernet MAC, and only one IP address.
If you try to plug a hub or a switch directly into DNO's network and
run the ethernet protocol through the hub or switch, it may not work
because of the eavesdropping protection.
