I don't suppose anyone else is having problems with ip resolution under
linux?
When I try to ping, ssh, use irc, or do anything that takes a domain name
as argument, the program simply barfs a SEGV at me.
When I specify the ip, however, things would seem ok.
For example, "ping www.yale.edu" would seg fault, and "ping 130.132.1.10"
would be okay.
I checked my /etc/resolv.conf, and it hasn't been changed or broken.
It has 130.132.1.10 130.132.1.9 and 130.132.1.11 specified as name servers
All of these problems started around the same time as when I got a memory
upgrade. I suspect my problem is a combo of a couple of messy things.
I had two 16MB edo simms, and I got two 32MB edo's. same speed.
Apparently, there were some compatibility problems, since my system was
less stable with all the simms in than with only either one of the pairs.
While the system was unstable, there were several unclean reboots, and I
suspect perhaps important files may have been corrupted in the process?
Frustrated by the unstability and inability to connect to the net in the
regular way, I have returned my hardware to its pre-upgrade state, but
while my system is stable so far, I'm still having the above mentioned
name resolution problem.
Note: using nslookup to find ip addreses of domain names is working.
Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does anyone know of a good way to test simm memory modules?
