Is it a Quantum drive? More often than not, I've experienced this problem
with their drives. I'd reccomend not using Quantum drives with Linux, if
possible.

In any case, it means exactly what it says. It is having problems
handling the IRQ with your drive. It is not likely caused by damage in
transit or anything that high level. It is likely due to some miniscule
problem with the drives fabrication. Chances are good that it will
eventually fail completely producing a "clicking" sound only. Who knows
when. If it is an important box, change the drive ASAP.

It's a hardware problem.
