Unfair question. :) But I do know that RHAT's
business model seems pretty viable in light of some
comments Steve Ballmer make at the PaineWebber Growth
& Technology conference in early June. Part of his
talk was pure hype, but that's Microsoft fer ya. The
other part was pretty interesting-- basically, he
seemed to say that software is a service, not a
product that's sold once.

It sounds almost like what he was saying there is that
the code itself is commodity-like and the service is
the real value-added portion that will ultimately be
the heaviest factor in a company's bottom line.

Maybe I read into his comments too much, or maybe
Microsoft has been saying something like this all
along and I just never caught it, but it seems like a
different sort of model, more of a Red Hat sort of
model to me.
