New: The First Ever Yale Installfest
We are planning to do some kind of installfest event for the beginning of
school. We will probably distribute CDs at the freshman activities bazaar and
do some other stuff to let people know that linux and the linux-list exist.
Old: Eric Raymond
In the first linux-list sponsored event, Eric Raymond, author of
"The
Cathedral and the Bazaar," spoke at Yale on Thursday,
February 25th, 1999, at 4:30 PM in LC 101.
He gave a talk on "Why Microsoft is Doomed: Linux and the
rise of Open Source," about the Linux phenomenon and why Open Source software
is generally better than closed source. For more information on Eric Raymond
and this topic, check out the Open Source
Initiative home page. The posters for this event
are available. See the February and March archives
for discussion of the talk on linux-list.
