FLAGS RESEARCH GRANT
Grants Available for Research in LGBT Studies
Fall FLAGS Grant Applications Due March 28th, 2008
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies announces its fall semester FLAGS awards (Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies), available to Yale graduate and professional students and faculty. Deadline is March 28, 2008.
Grants are made in support of projected research or publication, and they are not intended to provide reimbursement for expenses already incurred. Purposes for which funding may be sought include (but are not limited to) such items as: travel to inspect primary-source materials or to conduct interviews; acquisition of inaccessible books, microfilms, or other materials (with the understanding that such materials will ultimately be offered to Sterling or another library within the University); assistance in research and manuscript preparation; publication subvention; and projects in basic sciences, medicine, nursing, and public health. Applicants who seek additional funding for a previously supported project are expected to state how the money already received has been used and to justify the continuation of support. Students are responsible for knowing all University policies and procedures related to the conduct of research as they apply to their proposed project (see in particular Chapters 1 and 10 of the Principal Investigator's Handbook at http://www.yale.edu/provost/pih/index.html ).
Individual awards will be available for a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $5,000. Award monies are available for one year after the grant has been awarded. After one year, an extension for the grant must be filed. Sorry, undergraduates are not eligible. Original receipts are necessary for reimbursement; no meals are covered.
To apply, please forward to the Committee, in the care of Rachel Pepper, FLAGS Grants, Yale University, LGBT Studies, 100 Wall Street, WLH 312, P.O. Box 208334, New Haven CT 06520-8334 by March 28:
(1) a description of the work for which funding is needed (at least one, but not more than four double-spaced pages).
(2) a budget and description of your need for support (including the description of any other kinds of financial support you are also soliciting for this project)
(3) the names of two persons whom you have asked to recommend you; those persons should send directly to the aforementioned address by the deadline a letter supporting your project and your ability to carry it out successfully and in a timely manner.
Please ensure that you include a home address, e-mail, and phone number so that we can contact you regarding your grant application.
Applications lacking any of these components cannot be considered.
Any questions concerning applications or grants may be e-mailed to Coordinator Rachel Pepper at lgs@yale.edu. Announcement of the awards from the fund will be made about two weeks after the application deadline.
