Research Problem #4: Administrative Law

(Due April 1, 1998)

Using any of the finding aids to the Code of Federal Regulations (including the unofficial and official indexes as well as the list of federal agencies) determine whether there are any administrative regulations in the area of your research problem (from assignment #1). If, after 25 minutes, you do not locate at least one such administrative regulation, then pick a regulation from C.F.R. at random. (Please write the name of your research topic at the top of your paper.)

1. Give the C.F.R. citation to, and a brief summary of, any regulation relating to your research topic.

2. Give the Federal Register citation to and the date of the original promulgation of that regulation.

3. Using the "List of Sections Affected" in both the C.F.R. and the Federal Register, update the regulation you have found, and indicate any changes that have occurred up to February 15, 1998.

4. Shepardize the regulation you are using, and describe briefly what you find.

5. Using LEXIS and WESTLAW, locate in the C.F.R. and the Federal Register the regulation that you Shepardized in question 4, and then:

(a) See if it was cited in any judicial or administrative decision. (If so, attach the print-out of the citation or citations (but do not print out more than ten cites).

(b) Update the regulation on LEXIS and WESTLAW. List the searches/commands you used on each service to accomplish this, and list the citations to any provisions that updated your section.
