MANDJANI:
Mandjiani is a high – energy dance of celebration performed in Mali, Senegal, the Gambia and Guinea. Its movements symbolize the daily movements conducted in work and play.
DUNDUNBA:
Most popular in the country of Guinea, Dundunba symbolizes the strength of the Earth’s natural pulse. The strong rhythm calls people together to demonstrate their strength and ability to challenge each other and battle through dance.
LAMBA:
Lamba originates from the Khasonke community of Kayes, Mali. The dance celebrates harvest, marriages, rites of passage and religious ceremonies. Ethnic groups in Mali, Guinea, Senegal and the Gambia now perform Lamba because it was performed during the Malian Empire.
KOU-KOU:
Kou-Kou is a dance of initiation celebration performed among the Sou-Sou and Malinke peoples of Guinea. Young people perform the dance to celebrate passing their Initiation.
SUNU:
Sunu is a dance that originated in the ancient Mali Empire, which includes modern day Ghana and Mali. The dance is still performed in the Mading regions of Mali.? Sunu is usually performed at weddings to symbolize the femininity of the bride. Sunu is often seen during the wedding season in September and October of each year.
