University Includes Group Fundraising, Raises Contributory Match to $1,000 in Katrina Relief Effort Program
To the University Community:
The compassionate response from all corners of the University to the needs of families and individuals whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and now Rita, has been nothing short of inspirational.
To date, we note 912 individual donations for a combined dollar amount of $183,676 raised through Yale’s payroll deduction and matching contribution program. Your heartfelt generosity through both individual donations and group fundraising efforts has prompted the officers, fellows, deans and I to amend the matching donation program.
Going forward, the University will raise its contributory match to $1,000 for each individual donation by a student, faculty or staff member. Group fundraising efforts will now qualify for a dollar-for-dollar match. You will find a quick step guide for depositing proceeds from group fundraising events and applying for matching funds on Yales Katrina web site at http://www.yale.edu/katrina Please follow these guidelines for accurate deposit processing.
Every donation will be eligible for either the individual or group matching funds, but not both. We will match all contributions to relief efforts through December 9, 2005, so there is still plenty of time to make a donation. Those of you who have already contributed can have your donation matched by the University by providing the documentation as outlined on the Katrina web site. Those previously made donations will be matched up to the new $1,000 cap.
I sincerely thank all students, faculty and staff members who have so willingly opened their hearts to those in need.
Sincerely yours,
Richard C. Levin
