GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

The Journal of Marine Research publishes articles, either theoretical or descriptive, dealing with investigations pertaining to problems of the sea. Its pages are open to contributors from all countries, but publication is in English only and a foreign author should so prepare his paper. The Journal of Marine Research does not publish material that has been, or will be, published elsewhere.

General Instructions

Manuscripts (double-spaced, single-sided, 12-point font,1-inch margins all around) should be sent to the Editor at the JMR office or via email (in WORD or PDF format only). When submitting manuscripts via mail, please send three copies. An un-numbered cover page should include the title and authors’ names, addresses and email addresses. Manuscripts submitted to JMR should contain: Abstract, Text, Acknowledgments, Appendix (if necessary), References, Figures and Tables. Units should be in International System of Units (SI) format and set in roman font preferably using exponents (e.g., m s-1 not m/s). Figures and Tables must be cited in the text.

Figures, Tables, Captions

Since all illustrations are subject to reduction, it is important that the proper size characters be used. Lettering and markings on figures should be as large as possible to allow for reduction of the figure to page width (maximum of 5 inches). Captions for figures and tables are to be typed (double spaced) in sequence on one or more sheets. Figure originals should not have captions and there should be one figure per page.

Publication charges

There are no page charges for publishing in JMR. One hundred reprints usually cost around $200. JMR cannot absorb the cost of printing color figures and this charge is the authors’ responsibility.
