The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership

The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership (CGP) was established in 1991 to pursue the following objectives:

bullet To promote collaboration between Japan and the United States with the goal of fulfilling shared global responsibilities and contributing to improvements in the world’s welfare
bullet To enhance dialogue and interchange between Japanese and US citizens on a wide range of issues, thereby improving bilateral relations.

To realize these primary objectives, CGP focuses on the promotion of intellectual exchange to encourage global partnership between Japan, the United States, and other nations of the world and on the promotion of mutual understanding at the regional and grassroots levels.

The Japan Foundation, that was established in 1972 as a special legal entity to undertake international cultural exchange, became an independent administrative institution on October 1, 2003. A permanent collection of documents released prior to January 20, 2001. The Office for Japanese Affairs of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State coordinates U.S. relations with Japan.
