Software recommendations

Web Development There are two basic tracks you can take in creating your web pages; you can either create them manually or use a specialized authoring tool.

You can either:

1. Creating web pages manually: There are a number of great self-paced tutorials online with instructions on how to create web pages using writing HTML with a simple text editor. A comprehensive online tutorial can be found at w3schools.com/.
   
   
2. Using specialized authoring tools: There are a number of products available on the market that can make the process of writing web pages easier. Abobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver is the recommended authoring tool for developing web sites at Yale. It has many features that allow you to create pages and manage the site without excess markup that can cause problems on various browsers. Dreamweaver can be purchased through Yale's Software web site . Dreamweaver training is available at Yale's Learning Center.

Secure File Transfer

Files may be transfered to and from Yale institutional servers using only the secure FTP applications listed below. These software applications can be downloaded from the Software Download Site.
