Connecting to the Server

Files may be transfered to and from Yale institutional servers using only the secure FTP applications listed below. These software applications can be downloaded from the Software Download Site.

Transfer your HTML files to the Web server

Use a secure file transfer method to copy your HTML files to the server.

• The files should be placed in the directory named public_html
• The 'home page' for the site should be named index.html

The following matrix provides information on how to use the recommended File Transfer protocols:

* Recent versions of Dreamweaver and Contribute support SSH/SFTP and can be used with www.yale.edu.

Most Yale-supplied systems (systems in clusters or those supplied to faculty and staff by ITS) have a secure file transfer program installed. Faculty and staff should contact their support provider if they do not have such a program and require assistance.
