Institutional Web server account informationWeb server account informationAny Yale-affiliated organization is eligible for space on the ITS Institutional WWW servers. The organization receives an account and 50 MB of space at no charge, and 50-100 MB is available for $100 per year. Groups requiring more space and or specialized publishing services should contact the Yale University Webmaster. Qualifying Yale interest groups would also include voluntary or informal associations or groups, composed of Yale students, faculty and/or staff, participating in Yale-related educational research or student life interest which falls beyond Yale's formal research, teaching and clinical service programs or organizations. To apply for an institutional Web server account, the head of your organization (Chairs for departments, Deans for Schools, Presidents for registered student organizations, business offices for administrative departments) must submit a request. The request must identify a contact person (see details below) who will maintain the account on a day-to-day basis, and bears primary responsibility for complying with all policy, appropriate use, and technical restrictions on Web server accounts. Web server accounts are typically created within three business days from submission of the account request and any necessary written approvals. Your account is to be used only for the serving of HTML or XHTML Web pages approved by your sponsoring Yale University department or organization. Other types of graphics and other files typically associated with Web sites are also allowed (.gif, .jpg, .png Web graphics, Microsoft Office files, Acrobat PDF files, text files). Your account is not to be used for sending email, reading NetNews, telnetting, or supplying large, high-bandwidth media files or other types of large files (>4MB) via the institutional Web server. The institutional Web server is not to be used for your personal Web pages, for the benefit of any third parties, or for any profit-making or e-commerce activities without written authorization from the Yale University Webmaster and your departmental business office or chairman’s office. Web server space and user accounts are only available to faculty, students, and staff, and to Yale-affiliated organizations. Account contact personThe organizational "Contact Person" (also called the “Certifying Authority” in the Yale AUP) is liable for any misuse of the organizational account. If the account is found to have violated University or ITS policy, the Contact Person as well as the organization may be subject to excess storage charges, and University and/or legal sanctions. Contact the Yale University Webmaster to verify or change the official Contact Person for your Web site. The identity and email address of the Contact Person for your site must be listed prominently on your Web site, ideally on the home page or in the footer area of each page. We strongly recommend that your organization or department annually verify the identity and contact information for your official Contact Person, ideally at the beginning of the new academic year in September (for student groups), or the beginning of the new fiscal year in July (for faculty, staff, administrative and academic departments).
