Toll Authorization Numbers (TANs)
Faculty and staff
A Toll Authorization Number (TAN) serves to identify you as an authorized user of YALENET. This Toll Authorization Number must remain confidential. You will be responsible for any calls made with your Toll Authorization Number. If it is lost or stolen, contact us immediately. We will delete your TAN and assign you a new one.
Any employee or student using a Toll Authorization Number not belonging to them will be referred to the appropriate University and Municipal authorities for disciplinary action. Fraudulent use of the telephone system is a misdemeanor and punishable by law.
Students
TANs provide security from toll call abuse on your telephone and the ability to place calls from other telephones on campus. If you are in a single room and choose not to require a toll authorization numbers to place YaleNet calls, you will be responsible for every call placed from and to (collect calls) your telephone.
Upon your arrival at Yale, you will be issued a private Toll Authorization number (TAN). You can view your assigned TAN here. Log in with your NetID and password. You will need a Yale charge account to view your TAN. A TAN serves to identify you as an authorized user of YaleNet and provides a means to identify your toll charges. TANs are issued to students individually, and are to remain confidential and be used exclusively by the person to whom they are assigned. TANs are not to be shared among room residents, given out, or posted in conspicuous places. Fraudulent use of TANs will not be tolerated (refer to undergraduate regulations). A student who has been issued an authorization code is responsible for all calls associated to that code. Any student using a TAN not belonging to him/her will be referred to appropriate University officials for disciplinary action.
If you have reason to believe that someone has acquired your TAN, notify the ITS-Network Services Department immediately at 203-432-9644. We will delete your current number and assign you a new one. Credit for calls will not be given unless there is sufficient proof of fraud. It is also important to check your monthly statement to ensure that all calls were made by you. You are liable for monthly charges that accrue until notification of cancellation is received. Any student may request a new code by appearing in person at the ITS-Network Services Office at 25 Science Park, first floor with the proper identification.
You may view a listing of all calls here.
