Overview
All students in the Medical Center (including Medical, PA, EPH, and Nursing students) are provided with computing accounts for electronic mail and online library resources. For students who have their own computers, all of the rooms in Harkness Dormitory are connected to the campus network. The Medical Center schools provide public computing clusters and computer supported teaching space in the Medical Library, Lauder and Hope Buildings, EPH space at 47 College Street, and Nursing space at 100 Church Street South.
Purchasing equipment and software
Computer requirements and recommendations vary from school to school. The Medical School, School of Nursing, and School of Public Health recommend but do not require that you have a computer. The Physicians Associate Program requires a wireless laptop and recommends Dell. Public computers are available for all students.
We are pleased to offer a student laptop purchase program with Dell Computers. These are higher end machines in Dell's corporate line that are offered by various programs here at Yale. Most importantly they have an excellent onsite warranty and include CompleteCare, Dell's accidental damage protection. When comparing this offer to other machines, be sure to compare the cost of the warranty and accidental damage protection.
To order, go to the special Dell website for all Yale Medical Center students. To view and purchase the latest Apple hardware, please visit the CMC website.
Yale also has special student prices for certain hardware and software products. Order these products and more through Yale's online e-portal.
Students can get Microsoft key codes and media from Yale's MSDN Academic Alliance Program.

For official administrative & academic communications
All of the Schools in the Medical Center maintain official lists of email addresses of students, usually by graduating class. A message sent to the email address of a list goes to all students on the list. These lists are for official administrative and academic communications between the Office of the Dean of Students or its equivalent (who owns and monitors the list), teaching faculty, and all student. Because the lists are for official communications, all students have been put on the lists and communications are restricted - posting only by authorized addresses.
Med Program - studentaffairs-list@biomed.med.yale.edu
EPH Program - eph200X-list@biomed.med.yale.edu or eph200X-list@biomed.med.yale.edu
PA Program - pa200X-list@biomed.med.yale.edu or pa200X-list@biomed.med.yale.edu
Nursing Program - ysn_students@nursing3.med.yale.edu
For informal communications among students
A separate set of lists of email addresses are maintained for use by students for informal communications such as news of student social events. The lists are unmoderated, monitored by the the Office of the Dean of Students or its equivalent, and are limited to use by the medical center community. Initially all students will be subscribed to the list. To subscribe or unsubscribe to a list, follow the instructions at http://www.yale.edu/its/forms/listservs.html
Addresses for informal communications among students:
Medical Program - ysm200X-list@biomed.med.yale.edu
A new Med class list is created yearly, and each class year will have a separate list address (substitute the x's with 4 digit class year). For example - To contact the Med class graduating in June of 2008, send a message to: ysm2008-list@biomed.med.yale.edu
EPH Program - To contact all students in the current 2 year EPH Program: eph-list4students@biomed.med.yale.edu
PA Program - To communicate will all students in the current 2 year PA Program: pa-list4students@biomed.med.yale.edu
