Windows users can use SSH Secure Shell to connect to the Pantheon (or another SSH login host). For these instructions, SSH must have been downloaded and installed from the Yale Software Library.

To access the Pantheon for a telnet-like session with SSH:
1. Open the Secure Shell Client from the Start menu.

2. Click on the File menu and select Connect, or select the Quick Connect button.

3. A "Connect to Remote Host" box should appear
4. • To connect to the Pantheon:
   Type eli.yale.edu in the "Host Name" box.
   Type your NetID in the "User Name" box.
   Click Connect.
   
   
   • To connect to the another computer:
   Type the host name or IP address of the computer you are connecting to in the "Host Name" box.
   Type your account name on the host system in the "User Name" box.
   Click Connect.
   
5. An "Enter Password" box should appear. Type in your password for the system. If you are connecting to the Pantheon, this will simply be your NetID password. Then click OK.

6. The first time you connect to each host, you will see a "Host Identification" window that presents the host's public key. You should click Yes to save the new key onto your system.

7. You should now be logged in to the system, and have a prompt in a telnet-like window. Quit SSH Secure Shell when you are done by clicking on the File menu and choosing Exit.

Warning Message

If you have previously connected to a certain host and the administer has changed the SSH software on that machine, you may see a warning message like the one below:

If you see such a message, you should review the host's online documentation to see if this change is expected. If it is, click Yes. If not, contact the system administrator. Pantheon changes are announced on PantheonHelp.

Mac users can use SSH Secure Shell to connect to the Pantheon (or another SSH login host). For these instructions, SSH must have been downloaded and installed from the Yale Software Library.

To access the Pantheon for a telnet-like session with SSH:
1. Double-click the Yale SSH icon on your desktop.

2. You will then be asked for the name of the server to connect to. Hit Enter if you would like to connect to the Pantheon.

3. Enter your NetID at the prompt.

4. You will get a message that says "Connecting to eli.yale.edu..." and then you will be prompted for your password. Type in your password; it will be entered, even though nothing appears in the window. When you've typed in your password, hit Enter.

5. You should now be logged in to the system and have a prompt in a telnet-like window. Quit SSH when you are done by typing "logout". The connection will close and you can then close the Terminal window.
