Mailing Lists
Mailing lists provide an easy method of communication among groups of people. Instead of typing hundreds of addresses, you can simply type one, and all those subscribed to the list will receive your message.
We currently offer two alternatives: Pantheon Lists and Mailman Lists.
All users of mailing lists must adhere to these stated policies.
Pantheon Lists
Pantheon lists have addresses of the form listname@panlists.yale.edu. They are easier to manage, but do not have many of the customization features that Mailman offers. Panlists are managed by an online interface called the Pantheon List Management Tool.
Mailman Lists
Mailman lists have addresses listname@mailman.yale.edu. They have many more features such as moderation and archiving, but are slightly more complicated to administer. The Mailman list management interface is not protected by Central Authentication Service (CAS) and thus requires a separate password.
Selecting a list type
Which you use is heavily dependent on your desired features and security concerns. Please direct questions regarding Pantheon Lists to listmaster@yale.edu and direct questions regarding Mailman to mailman@yale.edu.
Pantheon Network Storage
About Pantheon
The Pantheon is a group of machines for Yale affiliates to log into and use as personal storage space. This space has a variety of uses, including storage for backup files or publishing pages onto the web.
Email is not stored on the Pantheon, but on different post office boxes on other machines. However, email can be accessed through a Pantheon machine with an application such as Pine.
For more information, visit the Pantheon STC Web Page.
