Accessing Websites Outside of Yale

If you need further assistance, please request help from a Student Tech.

Registering Your Network Connection

Yale users must register their network devices before they are allowed to access websites outside of Yale. You can do this by registering the Ethernet Hardware Addresses of those devices at the Yale Network Registration site. If you have guests at Yale who would like to have network access, please visit our Yale Guest Network Registration FAQ about how they can register.

  1. If you are running a Windows XP computer that has not been updated to Service Pack 2, please go to the FAQ for patching. If you're unsure, go to the page for instructions on how to verify your computer is updated.
  2. Connect your network card to the Yale network using a Cat5e Ethernet cable. Your computer may have small orange and green lights that will blink, indicating a valid network connection has been made.
  3. Use your web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari) to go to the Yale Network Registration site. Click on Register Student Network Connection.
  4. Login to the Central Authentication Service, if requested.
  5. Click on Register a new computer.
  6. You will need to register each of your network devices (Ethernet cards, both wired and wireless; routers, both LAN and WAN ports; PDAs; network gaming devices) if you want them to access the Yale network. Click on the Auto-Detect Your EHA button to determine the Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA) of the card that you are currently using to access the network.
Note: If the auto-detection fails or if you're registering an Ethernet card other than the one you are currently using, go here for instructions on how to determine your computer's EHA.
  7. Answer the demographic questions.
  8. Click the I Agree button to acknowledge that you agree to the ITS Appropriate Use Policy.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 to register all of your Ethernet cards.
  10. After 30 minutes, reboot your computer. You should now have full network access.
