Physical security for desktop computers

See our general recommendations for securing computer equipment. Desktop computers, monitors, printers, and external hard disks are vulnerable to theft, particularly in public or semi-public areas that can't be individually locked.

Cable locks

The easiest, least expensive solution to prevent theft of desktop computers and monitors is a cable lock that loops through your computer case, monitor, and even your printer case. Cable lock kits range from $25 - $35. Making theft inconvenient really helps - even a small cable lock will deter all but the most determined thieves.
