Yale email account configuration on PDA’s and smartphones running Palm and VersaMail

System requirements

  • PDA or smartphone running the Palm Operating System
  • VersaMail email client installed on the device
  • Yale email account

Before you begin

  • You must have a valid Yale email account.
  • You must know your Yale NetID and password. (see step 6 below)
  • You must know the system at Yale on which the account resides. (see step 8 below)

Setup and configuration

  1. Go to Applications and select Email.
  2. Press the Menu key. Select Accounts, and then select Account Setup.
  3. Select New.
  4. Enter a descriptive name (e.g. "Yale") in the Account Name field.
  5. In the Mail Service pick list select Other and then select POP or IMAP.
  6. Enter your NetID that you use to access your email. Then, select the password box and enter your email account password. Select OK.
    When you are done, select Next.
  7. Enter your email address, firstname.lastname@yale.edu.
  8. Enter the name of the Incoming Mail Server: eg.
    NetID.mail.yale.edu
    Email.med.yale.edu
    Omega.med.yale.edu
    Biomed.med.yale.edu
    (If you are unsure of which incoming mail server your email account is on, contact your ITS support provider or the ITS Help Desk for assistance.)
  9. Enter the name of the Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yale.edu
    Select Next.
  10. Select Advanced to configure Advanced Options.
  11. Under Incoming Mail Options check the box marked Use Secure Connection (SSL). Set the port number to 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP.
  12. Select Next to open the Advanced Outgoing Options.
  13. Check the box labeled Use Secure Connection (SSL) for the outgoing mail server. Set port number to 587.
  14. Click Done.
  15. To complete the account setup process, select Done.
  16. Select Options, select Preferences, select Connections.
  17. Select the Auto-Disconnect option.
  18. Select OK to complete the setup.

How to change your password

  1. Go to Applications and select Email.
  2. Press the Menu key. Select Accounts, and then select Account Setup.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Continue to select Next until you reach the screen that contains your username and password information.
  5. Tap the Password: box on the screen and enter your new password. Tap OK.
