Digital captures & large-format scanning
Academic Technologies provides digital captures and extremely accurate high-resolution digital scanning from books, maps, manuscripts and flat artwork. For the best possible digital reproduction of large pieces of artwork or three-dimensional objects, please inquire about our Better Light digital scanning back. The digital scanning back can produce up to a 350Mb file, and the results are amazing!
See our gallery for more detailed examples of our digital imaging techniques.
Slide scanning
To accommodate the increasing demand for 35mm slide conversion to digital images, we're using two Kodak HR 500 slide scanners. These professional quality slide scanners allow the photography team to efficiently scan large volumes of slides and produce high-quality digital images. If you are a faculty member in the Arts & Sciences, please see the following information regarding subsidized digital imaging services.
FAS subsidy
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences are eligible for a limited amount of subsidized digital imaging services for those materials that are in direct support of academic instruction and research. To learn more, please contact Ray Aldrete at 203.432.5389.
Image correction
Our digital imaging professionals can often restore badly damaged or aged images. Using our advanced digital scanning equipment, software and retouching skills we can refurbish old images, restore accurate color in faded or damaged images, remove dust and dirt from the image, repair the visual evidence of physical damage like creases or tears, and provide very high-quality digital files for publication, PowerPoints for lectures, or for public display.

Our digital imaging specialists restored the original colors of this 35mm slide from the 1960's, and removed the dust and dirt marks that marred the original image. Large format printing
We specialize in large format exhibition quality fine art posters and reproductions. In the past several years, large format digital printing has come a long way. A new generation of pigmented and ultrachrome inks and improved substrates provide print permanence of digital fine art reproductions.
Archival large format printing is available on several different media, e.g. luster, glossy, ultrasmooth and 100% fine art rag papers, to meet the demanding standards of discriminating artists.
