What you need . . .
Your computing hardware needs should mirror what you need to accomplish in your work. Our “General Recommendations” provide basic specifications for those who need to run email, scheduling, web and basic office productivity tools. If your job requires the use of specialized programs such as statistical software, then you should find a support provider who can advise you in the purchase of hardware that can meet your needs. We consider the useful life of a computer to be 3 years.
If you would like to see computers or talk to an IT person about the possibilities, you can visit the Computing and Media Center located at 333 Cedar Street, SHM IE90.

Where to buy hardware
Computer supplies, software and equipment can be
purchased online via the Yale ePortal (choose the Computer Equipment, Software & Supplies option). Yale designed the Computer Equipment
and Supplies site as a virtual store that provides direct access to secured, custom websites for vendors ( Dell, Apple, and IBM for equipment; and GovConnection) who have entered into
partnership with Yale. Every Yale faculty member, student, and staff member can use the ePortal to purchase computers, software, and supplies at discounts that have been carefully negotiated. It is strongly recommended that institutional purchases of Microsoft titles be made via the ePortal as the deeply discounted licensing of our Microsoft Select agreement is available only via the ePortal.
