Other perspectives on IMP
IMP is in full use at Yale and other universities. It's an integrated product similar to Eudora, Pine, and Netscape. That means that its behavior and interface are not changed lightly and institutions have been conservative in making changes other than upgrading to newer versions. It's useful to see what different groups have to say about their versions of IMP to have a perspective on what to expect and how to do things.

One of several supported options
As with all web-based email systems, IMPv4 is not intended to take the place of locally installed email programs such as Eudora, Thunderbird, Outlook and Entourage. IMPv4 is a program that can be convenient for you use when away from your own computer, to check for and respond to brief email. Please review our email client page. If you own a computer, ITS recommends you install and use a program such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora or Entourage to read your email rather than use IMPv4 as your main email program.
