University Messaging

Use of mass emailing is governed by the IT Acceptable Use Policy (ITAUP) and with permission of the Secretary's Office, the Provost's Office or another officer of the University.

Mass email lists may be provided by the requestor or use pre-defined lists maintained by ITS.

This segment of Message II is primarily used to send messages from the President's office and the Secretary's office. There is an option to post and validate messages on the University Messages page at: www.yale.edu/messages

To: Descriptive name of recipients, for example Yale Undergraduates.
  • Recipients of the message: may be provided by the requestor in the form of email addresses or netIDs
  • predefined or custom lists prepared by ITS
From: The name that appears in the From field of the Email and the email address.
Reply-To: The email account that will receive replies to the message - this can be different than the From field.
Subject The Subject of the Email message
Content Body of the message - plain or formatted text.

We recommend using a simple text editor such as MS Wordpad to prevent unwanted character translations.

Content may contain a url or link to a website with detailed information.
Test Email One or more individuals to review the message prior to sending the final message.
When The desired date and time of mailing - please contact us as soon as possible if you know a message is in process so that we can be prepared to meet your timing requirements.

Single or multiple attachments can be sent with the message. They appear at the bottom of the message in the form of a link.
