Phishing: Don't take the bait

In the past few months, campus email accounts have received malicious “phishing” messages. "Phishing" is when the sender of an email tries to trick recipients into volunteering personal or credential-related information.

YaleConnect: Preparing for email and calendar conversion

ITS is in the process of implementing a new integrated email and calendaring product called YaleConnect (based on Microsoft’s Exchange platform). The first phase of the project, which is currently underway, will be to migrate members of faculty and staff who use Meeting Maker to YaleConnect email. In the second phase, which will occur during the summer, the University will switch to the YaleConnect Calendar and retire the Meeting Maker service.

Student Technology Collaborative: New location and walk-in support services

The spring semester is full of changes for the Student Technology Collaborative (previously known as Student Computing). Undergraduate students in Yale College and graduate students in the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences may now receive technical assistance by walking in to the Technology Troubleshooting Office (TTO), located in the lower level of the Bass Library.

Data Scanning Project enters new phase: Self Data Scan

Beginning in April a new phase of the Data Scanning Project will begin: Self Data Scan. The Self Data Scan tools (available for download in the Software Library) make it possible for members of faculty and staff to scan their computers on and off campus to identify files that may contain confidential/personally-identifying numbers (i.e. Social Security or credit card numbers).

New software license agreements

Yale has made new license agreements for MatLab, Mathematica, and LabView software packages of particular interest to faculty and students in science and engineering.

Yale has also acquired a site license for NVivo from QSR International. NVivo lets users handle audio, video, pictures or documents, where deep levels of analysis on both small and large volumes of data are required.

Access to The Chronicle of Higher Education: Free online subscription

Yale University Library has added The Chronicle of Higher Education to its list of 60,000 available online journals. Yale now has university-wide access (IP validated) for "the No. 1 source of news, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators."

Link directly to a job description in STARS, Yale’s job-posting and recruitment system

If you would like to share job descriptions posted on STARS (Yale’s job-posting and recruitment system), it is possible to create direct links to individual descriptions. This is especially useful for listing jobs in an online publication such as a departmental newsletter.
