Course Reservations

Access the Course Reservation form

  • Input patron contact and identification information in section one.

  • Input film reservation information into the supplied fields in section two.

  • Enter screening location and comments in section three.

  • Please allow us at least 3 working days to process this form.

  • You are required to pick up and return media borrowed from the Film Study Center.

  • Please note that this form will allow you only to make a reservation for specific films. You cannot schedule classrooms or projectionists using this form.

  • If you wish to schedule a classroom, contact the Registrar at, 432-2330.

  • For courses listed or cross-listed under Film Studies, Classroom Technology & Event Services (432-2650) will provide the following service: pick up the DVD or VHS from the Film Study Center, start the screening, pick up the media after the screening and return the media to the Film Study Center. Otherwise, faculty are expected to make their own arrangements for course-related screenings.

  • There are 2 facilities on the Yale campus with the capability to project both 16mm and 35mm films: the Whitney Humanities Center (WHC) Auditorium, located at 53 Wall Street, corner of Wall & Church Streets, and classroom 106 located within 212 York Street, behind the School of Drama theater.  

  • To reserve the Whitney Humanities Center Auditorium, and to make any necessary arrangements regarding building access and alarm deactivation/activation, contact the WHC Reception desk at 432-0670. Reserve the auditorium before submitting the screening reservation form to the Film Study Center.

  • To reserve the screening room at 212 York Street, you must contact the Film Studies Program office at 436-4668 (Sunday through Wednesday screenings) or the Registrar at 432-2330 (Thursday through Saturday screenings.)

  • The Film Study Center must receive the completed screening reservation form at least two weeks in advance of the screening date so that we can hire a projectionist. We cannot guarantee the availability of a projectionist with less than two weeks’ notice. 

  • We require that you send us the completed reservation form, including charging instructions, prior to our hiring the projectionist. Please provide all the information requested.

  • Special instructions regarding the screening schedule, or the order of multiple titles, should be indicated in the comment field as well.

  • Cancellations must be by 12 noon one full week in advance of the screening; otherwise, you will be responsible for full payment of the projection fee. 

  • Unless arranged in advance, the Film Study Center is not responsible for any of the following: 

    • booking the film 
    • paying for the film rental 
    • payment of shipping charges 
    • We request that the print(s) be shipped directly to us at:

  • If necessary, you may be asked to provide someone to carry the film cans/boxes from the Film Study Center (basement) to the projection booth (second floor), and – following the showing – to carry the film cans/boxes back down to the Film Study Center for pickup by the shipping company. 

Projection fees (new fees effective Fall 2011 semester)

Yale University Departments and Organizations - $160 for one feature length film screening, 35mm or 16mm; $80 for screening of digital media, short or feature length; $60 setup and start of microphones. Note: additional fees may be charged, depending on running time and condition of the print. Overtime is billed at $40 per hour.

Non-Yale Organizations - $350 for one screening, 35mm or 16mm; $160 for screening of digital media, short or feature length.
Note: additional fees may be charged, depending on running time and condition of the print, billed at $80 per hour.
