Loan policies

Eligibility

Loans of items in our collection are restricted to Yale faculty, teaching assistants, and students. Our primary mission is to provide films and videos for classroom instruction and course study purposes.

Faculty and students who wish to use the collection must apply for borrowing privileges at the Film Study Center. You must have a valid Yale ID to borrow materials.

Advance reservations are encouraged to ensure that the titles you wish to see are indeed available.

On-site use of materials is free of charge. Students who wish to borrow from our collection for off-site use will be charged a nominal fee billed to their YALE CHARGE ACCOUNT. We do not accept cash, checks or credit cards. You must have a valid Yale ID to borrow materials.

Faculty

Faculty members may borrow free of charge.

  • Loan period: one week
  • Renewals are possible if no one else has reserved the item
  • Maximum number of items allowed out at one time: 10
  • You are responsible for replacement costs of lost items

Closed Reserve: DVDs and videos may be placed on Closed Reserve within the Film Study Center. During the duration of the closed reserve, items may not be checked out by any other person, and must be viewed on-site only. The faculty member placing the reserve may check out the item. Request forms are available at the Film Study Center.

Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistants may borrow free of charge. However, you must have a Yale Charge Account for "Miscellaneous Charges" for the payment of all charges.

  • You are responsible for replacement costs of lost items

Students (Graduate and Undergraduate)

On-site use of materials is free of charge. You may borrow for off-site use by purchasing a Semester Pass for $20. You must have a Yale Charge Account for "Miscellaneous Charges" for the payment of all charges.

  • Loan period: one working day
  • Renewals are possible if no one else has reserved the item
  • Maximum number of items allowed out at one time: 2

Renewals

Extensions of the loan period may be considered dependent on availability and advance reservations. Loan renewals may be requested by calling the Film Study Center (432-0148) on the due back date before closing time.

Or, you can renew online by logging in with your Yale Netid and Password. If your renewal is not approved, you will receive an automatic message requesting that you return the film before close of the Film Study Center on the due back date. Failure to return the item will result in a Late Fee (Teaching Assistants and Students only.)
