To Request Video Clips:

  1. Fill out the online form.
  2. Email clips@yale.edu with your request
  3. Leave the film (or request that we check it out) with the staff at the FSC desk along with your completed Form.
  4. To learn how to capture on the self service machines request an appointment from clips@yale.edu.

Please Note: Clip requests will be filled in the order received. Clips will provide an estimated completion date when the job is submitted. Every effort will be made to meet course required deadlines. Please note that compression time for video is about 3x real time (i.e. 3 minute clip will take 3 minutes to capture + 9 minutes to compress for a total of about 12 minutes).

What: A staffed clip capture station is now available in the Film Study Center to create clips from DVD or VHS sources for use in presentations, research and student review. Clips can be exported to formats for presentation software (such as PowerPoint and Keynote), online viewing for student review and/or set-top DVD's for in-class viewing. Consultation on options for viewing is available. Faculty can pinpoint timecodes for the captures, download and fill out the clip capture form and bring it to your appointment with the source video.

Purpose: This faculty service is for the creation of short video clips for use in courses and research here at Yale. This is not a duplication service. If you have a personal vhs collection which you wish to archive digitally or you need a digital copy for creating clips, please contact itg@yale.edu for consultation.

Copyright: Faculty must verify that they have obtained copyright permission to distribute copyrighted materials or that the requested materials fall under fair use in accordance with Title 17, Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Law

Clip Capture Self Service Stations: There are also two self-service capture machines available. To reserve a self-service machine contact the FSC front desk at 432-0148. To request training on the self service equipment contact clips@yale.edu.

Training for Powerpoint/Keynote and other classroom/teaching technologies is available by appointment with ITG staff. Contact itg@yale.edu.
