To provide a secure working environment, most applications and databases are password protected. Because some systems maintain their own passwords, it is possible to have different login credentials to access various applications at Yale. Yale NetIDs and passwords are case sensitive.
Generally there are three different types of login credentials:
Passwords that contain a combination of numbers, symbols, and upper and lower case letters are much harder to crack. See the Guide to selecting good passwords (PDF) for information on selecting strong passwords.
You can use the ITS Backup Client to change your password as frequently as you want: open your ITS Backup Client, then select the Menu for Utilities and pick "Change Password..." You will need to enter your current password once, and the new password twice. This operation will change the password on the server and the local encrypted password on your computer.
The older BMS application is not tied to your netID password. If you wish to change your BMS password, use Option 80 from within the BMS application.
If you do not know your BMS password, you will be unable to sign in and use option 80. Please submit a PIN request form and specify BMS AS/400 to reset that password.
There are four main systems within BMS2000. The GRS (Grant Reporting System), the GPAS (Grant and Contract Proposal Award System), the HIC (Human Investigation Committee protocol system) as well as the CRS (Clinical Reporting System).
Managing ID card issuance and information for all regular University employees, faculty, and students, used for a variety of purposes including library privileges, building access, etc.
Provides access to Central Campus monthly recurring charge detail for Email, Ethernet, PPP, Telephone service, pagers, and long distance toll, credit card and cellular charges.
Databases that house the information for the various applications on campus, Oracle or otherwise. Allows a user to change their Central Campus Oracle database password. It is also used to change the password for several administrative applications.
Windows operating system password used to login to your workstation.
Utility
If you set up your NetID password using these standard Yale tools, your Windows Directory password will be the same as your NetID password. Should you wish to change it, change both at Change your NetID Password.
