Passwords at Yale

To provide a secure working environment, most applications and databases are password protected. Because some systems maintain their own passwords, it is possible to have different login credentials to access various applications at Yale. Yale NetIDs and passwords are case sensitive.

Generally there are three different types of login credentials:

  1. NetID passwords - more about NetIDs
  2. Database passwords
  3. Application specific passwords

Passwords that contain a combination of numbers, symbols, and upper and lower case letters are much harder to crack. See the Guide to selecting good passwords (PDF) for information on selecting strong passwords.

In order to use your NetID password, you must first activate your NetID with a PIN.
