Cable TV

Overview

Yale University subscribes to cable television services provided by Comcast for its educational and entertainment value.  A basic set of broadcast, cable, and Yale-originated channels is included as part of the room charge. The basic Yale CATV service consists of approximately 40 channels, six of them reserved for Yale academic programming.  See the Yale Cable Channel Guide for a list of current available channels.  Cable-ready televisions can be plugged into the CATV jack directly.  No converter box is required.

Eligibility

Cable television is provided to all undergraduate and graduate students living on-campus. In multiple room suites, typically only the common room is wired.

Yale Academic Programming

  • Scola One (channel 5)
    European television programming in native languages.
  • Scola Two (channel 8)
    Spanish, Basque, and Portuguese television programming.
  • Yale Special Events (channel 10)
    Live broadcast of Class Day, Commencement , and other special events.
  • Research channel/ Yale CMI2 (channel 14)
    Research Channel programs examine and explore a wealth of research topics. Programs ranging from breakthrough technology and science innovations to fascinating arts and humanities subjects are shared in their original form — unmediated and without interruption.
  • mtvU (channel 15)
    mtvU is MTV Networks’ Peabody and Emmy Award-winning 24-hour college network-the largest and most comprehensive media network just for college students. The heart of the channel is the emerging music students live their lives to, including music videos and a range of series profiling the up-and-coming acts bubbling on the college scene.
  • YTV Student Cable (channel 24)
    Original Student programming.
