Desktop Technologies

The Desktop Technologies Group serves Yale University in a variety of ways as a tier-one support team that works on a variety of projects. In addition to providing technical support for client/server applications, we play an integral role in the design, maintenance, and support of the Yale Administrative Desktop (YAD) computer systems. Desktop Technologies is responsible for the Yale Administrative Menu System (YAMS), the highly controversial saxophone playing sweet potato, BUG Report Library, PCAmigo, the Software Library, and other related technologies to further the support of a more easily managed desktop computer. To learn more about our projects and find out how we may be able to assist you with administrative application support, read our project portfolio below.

Project Portfolio

As a team, the Desktop Technologies Group serves the entire University community in supporting Oracle applications. We have taken the initiative and the responsibility to understand the way Oracle applications work and interact with each other on user desktop computer systems. It is this basis of understanding that makes it possible for us to provide the level of support we do and to continually develop and maintain applications that are used extensively throughout the organization.

We support Yale's IT community in a variety of ways. The applications we develop and maintain save technical support specialists thousands of hours in system maintenance. We also serve as a diagnostic and troubleshooting resource for problems that don't have readily apparent solutions. Our holistic view of the administrative user population and their desktop computing requirements gives us a unique perspective that individual programming teams and system specialists typically don't have. As a result, we are more easily able to determine where cross-application conflicts exist and when to expect problems as a result of administrative application upgrades.

We also provide the Administrative Systems development staff strategic framework for desktop computing architecture and application deployment methods. This framework has saved countless hours in new application deployment, application upgrades, desktop system maintenance, and application availability for end users.

We see our contribution to Yale in terms of cost-savings through effective, efficient, and intelligent use of resources with the ultimate goal of reducing the total cost of ownership of personal computers at Yale.
