Requirement of competence in a foreign language
The foreign language requirement for students in the class of 2008 may be met by successful completion of ITAL 131b, Intermediate Italian II, ITAL 132, Intensive Intermediate Italian or any Italian course numbered higher than 131b that is conducted in Italian. Students in the class of 2009 and subsequent classes should consult chapter III of the Yale College Programs of Study. Students may also sit for a departmental written and oral placement examination. The written portion tests reading comprehension, writing skills, and knowledge of Italian grammar at the level of ITAL 130. The oral portion is a brief conversation with the professor administering the examination. The departmental placement examination will be given the day before fall tem classes begin.
