Quentin Faulkner

Quentin Faulkner is Larson Professor of Music Emeritus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During the winter semester 1998-9 he was Fulbright Guest-Professor at the Evangelische Hochschule für Kirchenmusik, Halle/Saale, Germany. He has written numerous articles on topics in church music, and has published Wiser than Despair: The Evolution of Ideas in the Relationship of Music and the Christian Church (Greenwood: 1996). He has frequently taught courses and led workshops involving both clergy and church musicians, and has attempted to help both groups understand and interpret each other’s “language” more accurately. Experiences leading workshops devoted to promoting congregational singing, as well as an article, “Accompanying Hymns with the Organ” (The American Organist, May 2005), have led him to focus on the problems and challenges that face congregational singing in today’s church.
